Wondering if the Jaz Tamerina Hotel in Almaza Bay, Marsa Matrouh, is worth it?

We stayed there during our family holiday, and honestly, it was one of the best trips we’ve had.

From crystal clear water with soft sand, through delicious food, excellent customer service, to the cleanliness of the rooms, this hotel has all you need for your summer holiday.

In this review, I’ll share what the hotel is really like, so you know exactly what to expect before booking your stay.

Jaz Tamerina: Overview

Jaz Tamerina Hotel is a smaller hotel in Almaza Bay, part of the Jaz group of hotels. It’s located inside a secure gated area that includes other resorts and private villas, so the whole place feels calm and safe.

The biggest highlight? The beach. Soft sand, clear water, and stunning shades of blue. It’s easy to see why Almaza Bay is often called the “Egyptian Maldives.”

Another thing we really loved at Jaz Tamerina was the food. There was plenty of variety, everything tasted great, and the service from the staff was excellent. We had the all-inclusive option, which made everything super easy and relaxed.

There’s also a large pool and a kids’ pool, so it works well for both couples and families.

If you book directly without a travel agency, the price per night for two people in one room is between $100–$600, with breakfast included. If you’re booking through a travel agency, you usually get an all-inclusive package that includes flights and transportation.

Since Jaz Tamerina is in the north of Egypt, right on the Mediterranean Sea, the season here runs from May to October, that is, when the weather is warm enough for a beach holiday.

Location

Jaz Tamerina Hotel is located in Marsa Matrouh, about 40 km from the airport. It took us around 45 minutes by bus to get there.

The hotel is part of the Almaza Bay complex, a closed and secure area that includes other Jaz hotels, some high-end shops, restaurants, cafés, and a small supermarket. You’ll also find souvenir shops in the neighboring hotels.

Apart from the Almaza Bay area, there isn’t much around. It’s right off the highway and pretty isolated. You won’t find a town or attractions within walking distance. The nearest town is Marsa Matrouh, but from what I’ve heard, it’s not that interesting, so we skipped it.

If you’re up for a longer adventure, Siwa Oasis is the most popular trip from here. It’s about a 3.5-hour drive, and the best way to get there is with an official guided tour. We did this trip, and I highly recommend it.

Rooms and facilities

When you walk into Jaz Tamerina, you arrive in a shiny reception hall with a chandelier and candles placed on a big glass table. Just opposite the reception desk, there’s a bar where you can enjoy a drink.

Step through the next door and you’ll be on the outdoor terrace, a nice place for drinks during the day or evening.

From the terrace, you’ll see the large pool surrounded by sunbeds. On the other side of the pool, there’s the main restaurant and a kids’ club for little ones.

There are superior rooms for couples and family rooms with either a garden or pool view. Family rooms come with two rooms and a sofa that turns into a bed, which is perfect if you’re staying with kids. If you get a room facing the pool, you might hear music from the terrace on some nights.

The rooms are modern, nicely decorated, and very clean. Each room includes a TV, air conditioning, a kettle, tea and coffee, a bottle of water, and toiletries like soap, shower gel, shampoo, and body lotion. There’s also a hairdryer and tissues.

The minibar has drinks and snacks, but those come at an extra cost. Every room has either a balcony or a ground-floor patio with chairs and a table.

Cleaning is done daily. You’ll also get beach towels in a bag that you hang on your door in the evening. In the morning, fresh towels will be delivered.

Wi-Fi works well across the hotel. I could even connect sometimes from the beach and the hotel next door!

Restaurants and bars

Since Jaz Tamerina is a small hotel, there aren’t many restaurants and bars, but the quality of the food and service make up for it.

A large pastry display at the Jaz Tamerina Hotel in Almaza Bay, Marsa Matrouh. The setup includes rows of fresh croissants, rolls, muffins, and other baked treats arranged neatly on wooden stands and trays.
  • Main restaurant – This is the hotel’s main buffet restaurant, and it serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You’ll find plenty of variety, and we thought everything tasted great. Meals don’t feel repetitive like in some other hotels. For breakfast, you can enjoy pancakes, waffles, eggs, and fresh pastries, along with salads, several types of cheeses, ham, and salami. Lunches and dinners always included options like meat, seafood, vegetables, rice, potatoes, pasta, fries, salads, sauces, cakes, and fresh fruit. There are also dietary options available, including gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegetarian dishes, which are helpful if you have any food sensitivities.
  • Maki Tuki restaurant – This is an Asian à la carte restaurant, open for dinner. We didn’t try it ourselves, so I can’t comment on the food, but it’s good to know it’s available if you want a change from the buffet.
  • Lobby Bar – Located in the main hall, also serves drinks on the terrace
  • Pool bar, right next to the main restaurant, this bar serves drinks during the day, along with afternoon snacks.
  • Beach bar – Belongs to the neighboring Jaz Oriental hotel, but it’s nearby if you want to grab a drink while at the beach.

Beach and pool

Let me tell you, the beach at Almaza Bay is absolutely stunning. It really reminded me of the Maldives. The sand is soft and clean, and the water has the most beautiful shades of blue.

There’s a long stretch of beach shared by four hotels: Jaz Tamerina, Jaz Oriental, Jaz Crystal, and Jaz Almaza Beach. While Jaz Tamerina is the only one not directly on the beach, it’s just a short 3-minute walk, either through the Oriental Hotel or along an outside path. And if you don’t feel like walking, there are golf carts available for guests.

A woman poses playfully on the soft sandy shore of Almaza Bay in Marsa Matrouh, Egypt, with clear turquoise water gently lapping at her feet. The beach stretches into the distance under a bright blue sky, with a few boats and beachgoers visible in the background.

As a Jaz Tamerina guest, you’ll use the beach area and beach bar of the Oriental Hotel. There are plenty of sunbeds with umbrellas, and the setup never felt crowded. You can also enjoy water activities for an extra cost, like banana rides, jet skis, speedboats, or flyboarding.

The water was so clear during our stay that you could see right through it. Some days were calm and felt like paradise. Other days had a bit of waves, but nothing too crazy, we still had a great time in the sea.

The sea entrance is shallow and gradual, so it’s great for kids, but after just a few steps, you can also get a good swim in. The soft sandy bottom is best in front of Jaz Oriental and Jaz Crystal. If you walk toward Jaz Almaza Beach, you might find some stones and grass in the water.

Back at Jaz Tamerina, there’s a large swimming pool and a separate kids’ pool, surrounded by sunbeds and umbrellas. It’s a nice, quiet option when you want a break from the waves

Entertainment and customer service

Let’s start with something that really stood out: the customer service at Jaz Tamerina was amazing. All the staff and managers were super friendly, helpful, and always greeted us with a smile.

The chefs were amazing with our gluten-free diet. They always explained what we could and couldn’t eat, and they even brought gluten-free bread and cakes straight from the back kitchen, which we really appreciated.

A group photo of the restaurant staff at Jaz Tamerina posing with our daughter, who is smiling while sitting on a chair in front. Everyone looks happy and relaxed, standing against a striped wall indoors.

They were also lovely with the kids, always giving them high-fives and making them feel included. When you arrive with children, they get a coloring book and pens to keep them entertained.

The staff manager regularly came over to check if everything was okay and would let us know if there was any program happening that day.

If you came through a travel agency, there were daily beach activities organized by the animators, like yoga, stretching, aqua gym, volleyball, and competitions. There was also a kids’ club and a small playground for the little ones.

In the evening, the same animation teams held a mini disco for children and different shows, but those happened over at Jaz Crystal Hotel, just a 5-minute walk away.

Evenings at Jaz Tamerina were more relaxed. We enjoyed live music, a saxophonist, a belly dancer, a Tanura show, and even a chocolate day with a lot of chocolate.
