Is Uber Available In Dubai?

Yes, Uber works in Dubai. Along with city taxis and Careem (which Uber actually owns), you’ll have no trouble finding a ride. And since 2024, another premium service called Wheely has also joined the market.

Among these options, Uber is usually the most luxurious, but also the most expensive. Careem is a bit cheaper, and city taxis remain the most budget-friendly choice.

If you’re arriving at Dubai International Airport, you might also want to consider a private transfer. The price is fixed, so you don’t need to stress about traffic jams, tolls, or airport surcharges.

Plus, the driver will be waiting for you inside the terminal, which makes the start of your trip a lot smoother.

How Much Does It Cost To Uber In Dubai?

Uber in Dubai costs more than regular taxis because it uses high-end cars like BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and even Tesla.

Your fare depends on the type of ride you pick, plus the usual mix of base fare, distance, and time. Luxury options will naturally cost more, and during peak hours, prices go up since you’re also paying for time spent in traffic, which happens a lot in Dubai.

Payments are easy: you can use a card or Google Pay. If you’re riding with friends, the app even lets you split the fare, so no one has to do the math at the end of the trip.

How To Use Uber In Dubai?

Using Uber in Dubai works the same way as anywhere else.

  • Download the Uber app (if you don’t already have it).
  • Set Dubai as your city.
  • Enter your pick-up and drop-off points.
  • Choose the type of ride.
  • Confirm your booking.
A busy highway interchange runs through the heart of Dubai, surrounded by tall skyscrapers. In the distance, low-rise neighborhoods stretch out toward the coastline under a hazy sky.

The app will then show you the driver’s details, car model, and arrival time. Before you get in, just double-check the license plate and driver’s name to be safe.

Uber is available all across Dubai, and you’ll even find dedicated pick-up and drop-off spots at popular places like the Dubai Mall. It is handy since it has multiple zones to choose from.

You can also use Uber in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, and even book rides between these cities.

Types of Uber

Dubai has several Uber options to suit different needs and group sizes:

1. UberX is the most affordable choice for everyday rides.

2. Uber Comfort offers newer cars and more experienced drivers. You can adjust the temperature, choose quiet or chatty rides, and get extra waiting time. Minimum fare: AED 19.

3. Uber Black is for luxury rides in high-end vehicles like BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus. Minimum fare: AED 23.

4. Uber XL is perfect for groups up to 6 people. A large car means you can share the cost among friends or family.

5. Uber Green – Eco-friendly electric rides, mostly Teslas. Prices are now similar to UberX to make sustainable travel more affordable.

6. Uber Family is ideal for traveling with young children. You can request a car seat for kids 4 years and under (AED 10 extra).

7. Select By The Hour – Book a car for multiple hours if you plan to visit several places with the same driver.

Note: Uber has even more ride options in Dubai that you can see while booking in the app. Availability may vary depending on your location and demand.

    Uber At Dubai Airport

Uber is available at both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). You can use it the same way you would anywhere else in Dubai, and you can even book up to 30 days in advance.

To use Uber at the airport:

    • Open your Uber app
    • Choose your pick-up and drop-off points, then confirm
    • You’ll get info about your driver, vehicle, and pick-up time on your phone
    • Once you receive a PIN, join the queue at your pick-up point and wait for your driver

Uber pick-up points are at Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

Keep in mind that Uber from the airport is more expensive than a city taxi. There’s an airport surcharge of AED 30, plus the minimum fare of AED 15-19 for the cheapest rides. Costs can increase with distance, waiting time, and traffic.

City taxis are cheaper, but traffic jams during peak hours can also raise your fare. Taxis also charge tolls and an airport surcharge.

If you’re traveling light, you can take the metro from Dubai International Airport.

For the easiest and most convenient option, consider a private transfer. It’s not the cheapest, but the driver will be waiting for you, and you pay a fixed price upfront, no surprises.
