Prague Christmas Markets 2025: Dates, Locations, and What You’ll Find

Prague is a beautiful city all year round, but at Christmas, it feels like a fairytale. The big Christmas tree, the colorful markets, the smell of mulled wine, the traditional food, and the Christmas music make the whole city feel special.
As I live in Prague, I get to visit these markets every year. In this guide, I’ll show you the best Christmas markets to visit in 2025, their opening dates, where they’re located, and what you can find at each one.

Prague Christmas Markets
Opening dates for 2025:
20 November to 6 January 2025
The tree-lighting ceremony at Old Town Square will take place on 29 November. During this time, you’ll find Christmas markets set up in several places around Prague. Here are the main ones to visit:
1. Old Town Square
The main and most beautiful Christmas market in Prague can be found in Old Town Square. This is where you’ll see the tall Christmas tree, live music, and a full program of events, all surrounded by famous landmarks like the Astronomical Clock and the Church of Our Lady Before Týn.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony takes place on 29 November, which is also the official opening day. During the season, you can enjoy theatre performances, concerts, and children’s folklore groups.
There will be 74 sales stalls offering traditional Czech products such as glass ornaments, nativity scenes, Czech glass, ceramics, wooden toys, embroidered tablecloths, gingerbread cookies, and more.
Food lovers will enjoy roasted sausages, roasted pig, chestnuts, potato crisps, waffles, and dishes from Czech cuisine. You’ll also find vegetarian options and even snails or oysters for those who like to try something different.
And of course, the sweet trdelník (chimney cake) will be everywhere, all surrounded by the warm smell of mulled wine.

2. Wenceslas Square (lower part)
Wenceslas Square has two Christmas markets, one in the lower part, where you’ll see the Christmas tree, and another in the upper part.
In the lower part, you’ll find 33 stalls offering food such as roasted pig, chestnuts, sausages, potato crisps, trdelník, mulled wine, and punch.

You can also buy Czech products, including Christmas decorations, wooden toys, embroidered tablecloths, gingerbread cookies, and more.
A nice addition here is the ice rink, which creates a great atmosphere in the evening. You can rent ice skates directly at the rink, and the Christmas market stalls are right next to it, so you can enjoy food and drinks while you’re there.

3. Wenceslas Square (upper part)
Another Christmas market is located in the upper part of Wenceslas Square, close to the National Museum and the statue of Saint Wenceslas on horseback.
Here you can enjoy Christmas treats such as sausages, dishes from Czech cuisine, trdelník, mulled wine, and more.
You’ll also find stalls selling Czech products, perfect if you want to bring home a few souvenirs from your Christmas trip to Prague.

4. Peace Square (Náměstí Míru)
The Christmas market on Peace Square may not be the biggest, but it’s very lovely and a favorite among locals.

In the middle of the square, you’ll find a beautiful Christmas tree and the stunning St. Ludmila Church, which adds a special festive atmosphere.
You’ll also find plenty of delicious food and drinks, as well as stalls selling Czech products like wooden toys, wool hats and gloves, Christmas decorations, jewelry, gingerbread, and more.

5. Tyl Square (Tylovo Náměstí)
If you want to visit a smaller, friendlier market where locals like to spend time, head to Tyl Square.
You’ll still find traditional Czech food and products to buy, but the atmosphere here is more relaxed and cozy.

6. Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky)
Not far from Wenceslas Square, you’ll find the small Republic Square, right in front of the Palladium shopping mall.

Even though this market is small, it still has a Christmas tree and a nativity scene with statues of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and animals, surrounded by stalls selling food, mulled wine, and some Czech products.
This market is a nice stop before heading into the mall for Christmas shopping, where you can also warm up indoors.

7. Anděl
The Christmas market in Anděl is not very large and is mostly visited by locals. It has a great location, right next to the Anděl metro station, and the Nový Smíchov shopping mall is nearby.

At this market, you’ll find plenty of food such as grilled meat, trdelník, waffles, traditional Czech dishes, mulled wine, punch, and hot chocolate.
Stalls also sell Czech products like Christmas decorations, wooden toys, candles, gingerbread cookies, embroidered tablecloths, and more.

8. George of Poděbrady Square (Jiřího z Podebrad)
The Christmas market at Jiřího z Poděbrad is smaller but very popular with locals. It’s set around the square with the beautiful Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord, which gives the market a special festive atmosphere.

The market usually hosts cultural programs, and people often praise it for its cozy atmosphere and beautiful setting, even though it’s small.
You’ll find tasty treats like trdelník, mulled wine, Czech sausages, and sweets, as well as stalls selling Christmas decorations, wooden toys, candles, and other Czech products.

9. Mariánské Square
Mariánské Square hosts one of the smallest Christmas markets in Prague, but it has a very cozy and peaceful feel. You’ll find just a few stalls, many of them focused on charity, along with a couple of places offering warm food and drinks.

There are usually small concerts or performances that make the atmosphere even more special. It’s a nice stop if you’re exploring the area and want a quieter Christmas experience.

Even though I don’t like the cold, Prague during Christmas is something special. The markets, the smell of warm food, the lights, and the whole atmosphere make the city feel magical. And if you’re lucky and it snows, it’s like stepping into a fairy tale.
Is it cold in Prague in December?
Yes, it’s cold. December is already winter, even though it’s usually not as freezing as January or February. The weather can be unpredictable, so warm clothes are a must.

The best Christmas Markets in Prague are in the Old Town Square. It’s the biggest one and has the most festive atmosphere.
