How To Get From Naples Airport To The Amalfi Coast
Getting from Naples airport to the Amalfi Coast is not as simple as it sounds. There are 13 different towns along the coast, and the way you get there really depends on where you’re staying.
I did all the research before our trip, so in this guide, I’ll walk you through every way to get from Naples airport to the Amalfi Coast, so you don’t have to figure it out yourself.

1. By Private Transfer
If comfort and ease are your priority, a private transfer is the easiest and most comfortable option. It’s door-to-door, so you don’t need to worry about connections, timetables, or dragging your suitcase through different towns.
It costs a bit more than public transport, around 150 euros, but if you’re arriving tired after a long flight, it takes all the stress away and gets you straight to your hotel.

2. By Taxi
Taxis are also available right outside the airport, but they worked out even pricier for us than a private transfer.
If you go this route, I’d recommend checking the price before getting in the car, or booking through a proper taxi app.
Advantages:
- Available straight away
Disadvantages:
- The most expensive option
- Prices can vary
3. By Rental Car
If you feel comfortable driving on the Amalfi Coast, renting a car is another option. And I’ll say this clearly: the coastal road is not just a road, it’s basically a roller coaster.
It’s narrow, winding, and full of tight bends with a drop to the sea on one side.
We didn’t rent a car, but from what we saw out of the bus window, I’d only recommend this if you’re a confident driver and don’t mind slow, nerve-wracking traffic during high season.

Advantages:
- Full flexibility to explore at your own pace
- Good option if you want to visit multiple towns easily
Disadvantages:
- The coastal road is narrow and busy
- Parking in the small towns is limited and difficult
4. By Shuttle
This is the option we went with, and I can highly recommend it. We used a company called Pintour and booked our tickets online in advance.
It took us directly from Naples airport to Atrani, where we were staying, just next to Amalfi town. It cost us €20 per person one way, or €40 return.
The buses are air-conditioned, comfortable, and clean, and they were on time both ways for us. The journey takes around 2 hours, and once you’re on the coastal road, you’ll really feel every curve of it.
TIP: Book your ticket online in advance, and check which stops are included on your route before you buy.
Advantages:
- Much cheaper than a private transfer or taxi
- Comfortable, air-conditioned, and reliable
Disadvantages:
- Journey can take longer if there’s traffic on the coastal road
5. By Public Transport
This one really depends on which town you’re heading to, since the Amalfi Coast has 13 towns and they’re not all served the same way.
If you’re going to Sorrento or Salerno, which are the two biggest towns and sit just on the outskirts of the coast, you can get there by bus, or a combination of bus and train.
If Positano is your destination, which is the most popular town on the coast, you can get there by bus, followed by a ferry.
For the smaller towns like Amalfi, Atrani, or Minori, there are bus options too, but it gets complicated, with changes and timings that aren’t always easy to figure out as a tourist.

- The cheapest way to get to the coast

- Complicated depending on which town you’re staying
- Multiple changes and connections

How long does it take to get from Naples airport to the Amalfi Coast?
It depends on your option, destination, and time of the day, but you’re generally looking at 1 to 2 hours. A private transfer to Amalfi town takes around 1 hour, while our shuttle to Atrani took closer to 2 hours.
What’s the cheapest way to get from Naples airport to the Amalfi Coast?
Public transport is the cheapest option, but it’s also the most complicated, especially if you’re staying in one of the smaller towns. If you want something cheap but still simple and comfortable, the shuttle is a great middle ground.
Is there a direct bus from Naples airport to Amalfi?
There’s a direct bus to Sorrento, but for Amalfi town and the smaller towns like Atrani, there isn’t a single direct public bus, you’d need to change or combine transport once you’re on the coast.
The shuttle we used with Pintour is the closest thing to a direct option, since it took us straight from the airport to Atrani, right next to Amalfi.
