Both Seychelles and Maldives are stunning islands and amazing places to visit. Both of them are great for a honeymoon or wedding. Both of them have beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise clear water. Also, underwater life is rich in both of them. So which one to choose, Seychelles or Maldives? Let’s have a look closer into both of them.
Why you should choose Seychelles
The Republic of Seychelles is an archipelagic island country in the Indian ocean and consists of 115 islands. You can visit Seychelles anytime during the year due to the stable humid climate, however, the best time is between May and November due to the dry season. Most precipitations can be experienced from December till April.
In Seychelles, you can find not only the most luxurious hotels but also hotels on a budget. While the Maldives is more a luxurious destination.
Seychelles have beautiful fauna and flora that you can experience all over the islands with many places and species under UNESCO site. Whether you love to experience life under the water or on the ground, you will find a lot of opportunities here.
If you would like to not only lay down at the beach but also have a more active holiday, explore and see other places and islands, Seychelles is the right place to choose. I recommend staying on the biggest island of Seychelles, Mahe, where there is a lot to do and also you can take trips and tours to some other islands.
The Capital city of Victoria is located on Mahe island. There is great bus transportation on Mahe, therefore you can take a bus to the city and look around. There is a clock tower, church, museum, and also Victoria market that is worth visiting.
There is also a lovely botanical garden with turtles that you can go close by, take pictures, and stroke them. It is an awesome experience.
For a stunning view, you should walk through the forest in Morne National park to the highest peak of Seychelles Morne Seychellois. You will see the islands through the birds’ eyes.
While staying on Mahe island, you can take a bus to many other most of the time empty beaches to enjoy your quiet and relaxing day.
If you would like to visit other islands, you can take a trip to Praslin and La Digue island. In Praslin, you can go to Vallee De Mai National Park where the famous palm trees with buttock-shaped coconuts grow, and learn interesting facts from the tour guide. There are also the most beautiful beaches in Praslin that you can visit. In La Digue, which is a very small island you can see a vanilla plantation and how the coconut oil is made. In La Digue island there is no car transportation, only bikes, and ox-carts. There are also many other islands that you can visit.
The other activities that can be done in Seychelles are snorkeling, diving, Ziplining, taking a helicopter ride and in the evening you can visit local bars.
Why you should choose Maldives
The Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean in South Asia. It consists of over one thousand islands grouped in 26 coral atolls. The climate is a tropical monsoon climate, which means hot and often humid. There is a dry and rainy season, however, the rains don’t last very long. The best time to visit the Maldives is from December till April when the dry season is.
Compared to Seychelles, Maldives is a more relaxing holiday destination. There are not many places to visit or activities to do. If you are looking to relax and clear your mind from your stressful life back home, the Maldives is the right place to choose. All you need is a swimming costume, sunglasses, suncream, a book if you like to read and some extra clothes to wear for dinner in the restaurant.
You will be staying on one island where your accommodation is, walking barefoot, laying on the beach, swimming, and snorkeling in the clearest ocean. You will be surrounded by palm trees and watch magnificent sunset every evening.
There are diving schools, so you can go diving or some of the hotels organize flights above the islands.
The Maldives is also great for yoga retreats and meditations. It is a very peaceful, quiet, and natural place. The Maldives is paradise on earth. You will come back home as a new person.
How many days are needed to explore Seychelles vs the Maldives?
For Seychelles, you will need a minimum of 7 days, but around 10 days is the best in order to relax and see some other islands, beaches, and sights.
For the Maldives, it depends on how many days you need for your retreat. Normally 5 days is enough, but some people can stay for 7 to 10 days.
Is Seychelles or Maldives better for a family holiday?
Both Seychelles and the Maldives are good for family vacations. However, I would recommend Seychelles more as there are more activities to be done for children than in the Maldives.
To conclude whether to choose Seychelles or the Maldives, it depends on whether you would like a more active holiday or a relaxing one. For more active holiday with stunning beaches, choose Seychelles. For a relaxing holiday, choose the Maldives.
